Chiang Rai United suffered a humiliating defeat, losing 5-1 to Port Authority FC at PAT Stadium on Monday night in Bangkok. Port moved to second place in the Thai 1 League, with the same points and goal difference as Buriram United.
Port scored from Bodin Phala in the 23rd minute during a penalty kick. Bodin kicked the ball over the head of Apirak Worawong, the away team’s goalkeeper, who came out to close the angle of the goal, giving Port Authority FC a 1-0 lead.
In the 32nd minute, Port Authority extended its lead to 2-0 when Bodin Phala got the ball and kicked it into the middle of the goal. Willen Mota headed the ball but missed it to the far post, where Lonsana Doumbouya sped in to head it into the goal.
Port went on to score in the 46th minute, Noboru Shimura in the 56th minute, and Peeradon Chamratsamee in the 69th minute, while Singha Chiang Rai scored from Piyapol Phanichkul in the 90th minute to end the game 5-1
This victory made Port win two matches in a row. They now have 6 points, equal to “Thunder Castle” Buriram United. They also have the same goal difference, making them joint leaders.
