WASHINGTON, D.C. — Wild rumours about President Donald Trump’s health took over the internet over the past week, with hashtags such as “#WhereIsTrump” and “#TrumpIsDead” gaining traction across social media and search engines. After being out of the public eye for several days, online speculation ran rampant.

These false claims lost steam on Saturday, 30 August 2025, when Trump was photographed leaving the White House with his grandchildren, Kai Trump and Spencer Frederick Trump, heading to Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia. Wearing his trademark red cap, a white polo, and black trousers, Trump looked relaxed and cheerful, putting an end to the runaway gossip online.

The rumours started on Friday, 29 August 2025, after Trump’s schedule showed no public appearances. Users on X, formerly Twitter, posted frequent updates questioning the President’s status, with some claiming he was unwell or had even died.

By Saturday, searches like “Is Trump dead?” hit the top of Google Trends, and “#WhereIsTrump” became the sixth most popular trend on X in the United States. Reports from X’s chatbot Grok counted over 158,000 posts saying “TRUMP IS DEAD” and over 42,000 with “TRUMP DIED.”

JD Vance Interview

This speculation gained traction after Vice President JD Vance told USA Today on Thursday, 28 August, he was “ready to step in” should a “terrible tragedy” occur, while stressing Trump was “in great health.” Many read these words as confirmation of bad news, which only added to the rumours.

The White House mostly kept quiet during the drama, but Trump stayed active on his Truth Social page. That Saturday morning, he posted a harsh message about a US appeals court decision that overturned most of his tariffs, proving he remained engaged. His last public appearance before heading to the golf course was on 26 August, when he led a televised Cabinet meeting.

Two days earlier, he was spotted at his Virginia golf club with former MLB pitcher Roger Clemens. Even so, the lack of events over the Labour Day weekend and his decision to skip his Bedminster, New Jersey, retreat caused even more online debate.

Recent health questions only added to the frenzy, especially after the White House announced Trump’s diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency, a mild condition related to age and standing for long periods.

Bruised Hand and Swollen Ankles

Photos of his bruised right hand and swollen ankles, along with his age—Trump turned 79 on 14 June 2025, making him the oldest President at inauguration—sparked further talk. Social media users saw these physical signs and compared the latest rumours to hoaxes from his first term, including claims made when he caught COVID-19.

Trump’s golf outing on Saturday quickly silenced the health scare. News photographers captured him smiling with his granddaughter Kai on the White House’s south lawn as they got into the motorcade at 8:49 a.m., according to the press pool.

Videos shared online showed Trump greeting supporters and giving a thumbs-up, quelling the rumours. Images appeared across major news sites, including Forbes, Hindustan Times, and Newsweek, quickly ending the viral speculation.

Reagan Reese, a White House correspondent at the Daily Caller, wrote on X, “I wake up to see people freaking out that Trump’s sick or dead or something because he hasn’t been seen in a few days. I was with the President yesterday afternoon. I interviewed him for an hour.”

The rapid spread of the story highlights how social platforms can amplify unverified claims during heated political times. People on X ranged from genuinely worried to openly mocking, with one user joking about sending “$500 to everyone who likes this tweet” if Donald Trump were actually dead.

The account Republicans against Donald Trump, which has more than 940,000 followers, questioned who was in charge during Trump’s brief absence, leading to over 1.5 million views.

Confirmation from the White House and Donald Trump’s public outing brought the gossip to a halt, though it showed just how quickly misinformation can take root online.

Donald Trump has dealt with similar stories before. In 2024, hashtags like “Pray for President Trump” began trending, only to fade once he reappeared in public. This latest episode echoes false claims against other public figures, such as Bill Clinton, who faced online theories about his health after being photographed with medical equipment.

Trump’s golf club trip underlined his ability to dominate attention, even when faced with baseless talk.

Now, attention is turning back to his presidential agenda, such as his response to court decisions on tariffs and ongoing immigration issues. For now, the picture of Donald Trump playing golf with his grandchildren has settled the online rumours, showing the 47th President is still present and active.
