MAE SOT – A serious crash in Tak Province left two people dead, and one critically injured, after a Toyota Yaris hatchback heading to the Mae Sot permanent border checkpoint reportedly hit the rear of a parked 18-wheel truck. Police believe the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel after a long drive.

On Feb. 11, 2026, Pol. Col. Rang Daodung, superintendent of Mae Sot Police Station (Tak), received a report of a major collision around 6:30 a.m. The crash happened near kilometer marker 5 on the Mae Sot to Tak Road, across from the Don Kaew Municipal Temple School in Mae Sot District.

Police officers and rescue workers from the Pitak Kanchan Foundation (Mae Sot area) responded with police to check the scene. There, they found a red Isuzu 18-wheel truck pulled over on the roadside with a full load. The truck driver, Mr. Methee Nu-im, 50, was not injured and stayed at the scene to give a statement.

Behind the truck, a Toyota Yaris was heavily damaged after crashing into the truck’s rear. Documents related to migrant labor and travel bags were scattered inside the car.

Police identified the driver of the sedan as Mr. Myu Min Oo, 29, a Myanmar national. He was found dead in the driver’s seat. A second victim, Ms. Khin Nin We, 20, was found dead in the back seat with severe head injuries and a broken neck.

A third occupant, Mr. Satya Hinnang, 49, was trapped in the wreckage and suffered critical injuries. Rescuers used cutting and spreading tools to remove the victims and rushed the injured man to Mae Sot Hospital. Officials said he remained in danger and needed close medical monitoring.

Early findings indicate the group, two Myanmar nationals and one Thai, traveled from Bangkok toward the immigration checkpoint near the Thai-Myanmar border in Tak. Investigators believe they were likely working in a business related to renewing migrant worker documents, with Mr. Myu Min Oo driving.

The crash happened on a straight stretch of road, about 5 kilometers from the Mae Sot permanent border checkpoint No. 1. Police suspect the driver, after a long trip without rest, may have nodded off. The sedan reportedly left its lane at high speed and hit the parked truck without braking.

Mae Sot police investigators are interviewing witnesses and collecting details to confirm the exact cause. Officers are also coordinating with the families of the deceased, who are Myanmar nationals.
