LAMPANG– A tragic motorbike crash has become a stark warning after a group of young teens from outside the area gathered to ride their motorbikes to the charity concert festival, City of Carriages Motor Show, now in its 5th year.
After the event, several of them raced their motorbikes, lost control, and hit the bridge barrier, sending one rider over the side of the 4‑metre-high bridge and another sliding along the road. Both died from their injuries.
Rescue staff from Lampang Hospital, volunteers from the Sawang Lampang Rescue Association, and officers from Khelang Nakhon Police Station rushed to the scene on the elevated Nakuam bridge (Northern junction) in Chomphu subdistrict, Mueang Lampang district, after receiving a report of a serious motorcycle accident with fatalities at 11.05 pm on 13 December 2025.
When they arrived on the 4‑metre-high bridge, they found a badly damaged Honda motorbike lying in the middle of the road. There were long scrape marks on the tarmac, stretching for around 30 metres. One victim, a male teenager from Chiang Rai, about 16 years old, was found unresponsive on the bridge. Rescuers tried to perform CPR, but could not revive him.
At the same time, another seriously injured teenager was found on the grass area below the bridge. His breathing was very weak, so rescue workers carried out CPR and rushed him to the hospital as fast as possible. He later died in the hospital, bringing the death toll to two.
A lorry driver who witnessed the crash told officers that he saw three motorcycles ridden by teenagers come speeding along together before one of them failed to take the bend and crashed.
Initial information indicates that teenagers traveled from several northern provinces to participate in a vintage car and bike gathering in Pong Yang Khok subdistrict, Hang Chat district, Lampang.
The event was organized by the “Chomrom Rot Kao Muang Rot Ma“, and this year marked the fifth time it was held under the name “Mahakorn Concert Charity Muang Rot Ma 5th Edition.”
After the event ended, groups of young riders set off back home. Many rode their bikes in a racing manner. When they reached the elevated bridge where the crash took place, one motorbike lost control, hit the bridge barrier, and slid a long distance.
The force of the impact threw the rider and pillion passenger from the motorcycle. One tumbled along the road, and another was flung off the 4‑metre-high bridge.
This vintage vehicle show has faced public criticism every year. Locals often complain about groups of out-of-town teenagers racing on public roads while coming to and leaving the event. Ahead of this year’s gathering, people had already reported groups of riders speeding and racing on the roads to the police. In the end, what many had feared happened anyway, when two teenagers raced their bikes and ended up losing their lives.
After local media and rescue teams posted news and photos of the crash online, social media quickly filled with upset and angry comments. Many residents spoke about the impact these groups have on everyday life.
Some said things like, “I couldn’t sleep, kept waking up from the noise, now I see why”, “Where are the police, the governor, the district chief?”, “Parents share some blame too”, “Rescue teams have to suffer again”, “I really feel for the parents”, and “Teenagers never think about death when they ride, they go so fast and don’t wear helmets, I feel so sorry for the families.” Another comment summed it up as “This is the sad end for kids who never listen.”
Following the backlash, the event organiser posted a public apology about the incident, saying, “I’m sorry to the people of Lampang. Out of 365 days, I only asked for 1 day. I’m truly sorry.”
