The Office of the Attorney-General reports that the police are receiving approximately 700 cases of call center scams and fraud daily, which amounts to 450 billion baht in annual damages.

Mr. Sompong Yenkaew, a Chief prosecutor, made the remarks During a training program for public prosecutors at a workshop in Phitsanulok province on Wednesday.

He stated that the training program is designed to equip prosecutors with the necessary skills and knowledge to assist victims and address cyber criminals and call center fraudsters.

According to Mr. Sompong, the police have been conducting daily investigations into call center schemes, which have resulted in the theft of 450 billion baht annually from victims. However, authorities have only been able to recover 2% of the lost funds.

He stated that despite an executive decree on preventing and suppressing cybercrime, the authorities can still not effectively address the issue.

Mr. Sompong urged financial institutions, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission, the Bank of Thailand, and other law enforcement agencies to collaborate more closely to combat cybercrime.

He stated that the Police Anti Online Call Center Scam Operation Center emergency hotline, which is operational 24/7, can assist victims. The center will help file complaints and have the perpetrators’ bank accounts frozen.
