Police investigators on the tourist island of Phuket have changed their findings, claiming they thought they had a murder on their hands but now believe a Russian man found dead in a ditch at Karon beach committed suicide.

Pol Maj Gen Sinlert Sukhum, chief of Phuket police, stated on Thursday that information gathered by detectives now points to a suicide.

According to police investigations, the deceased exhibited psychotic behavior and used marijuana, which may have induced hallucinations, anxious symptoms, and other actions that led to violence.

According to the man’s Russian wife, her spouse attempted suicide multiple times.

Pol Maj Gen Sinlert said police detectives are gathering further information before making a press conference to discuss the cause of death.

The Russian man, only identified as Mr. Llia Orlov, 27, sustained many injuries, including wounds near his eyes, severe bruises around his left ear, and deep cuts on both arms. It appeared that he had been beaten with a harsh object.

On Tuesday, his body was discovered in a ditch near the Naga statue along the road that leads to Karon Beach in Phuket. A forensic examiner estimates that he had been deceased for at least 8 hours when his body was discovered.

Police first suspected he had been murdered somewhere, and his corpse was dumped in the ditch.
