PHITSANULOK – A 59-year-old market vendor tragically lost her life, and three others were injured in a collision early on May 2, 2026, when her pickup truck lost control, crossed a road median, and crashed into oncoming traffic on Highway 12 in the Mueang district of Phitsanulok, Thailand.
Police suspect that wet, slippery road conditions from recent rain, or the driver possibly falling asleep at the wheel, caused the fatal incident. The devastating crash involved a total of three vehicles and temporarily brought morning traffic to a standstill as emergency teams rushed to the scene.
The accident occurred in the Moo 3 area of the Phlai Chumphon sub-district. First responders arrived to find a severely damaged bronze four-door Toyota Revo pickup truck. The impact completely crushed the front of the vehicle all the way back to the engine bay.
The driver, identified as Mrs. Prasert Sikhoon from the Phrom Phiram district, was found deceased on the road near her vehicle. She was a well-known vendor who sold goods at the local morning market. Sadly, the force of the collision threw her from the truck. She suffered severe facial trauma and multiple fractures to her arms and legs.
The chaotic scene involved two other vehicles traveling in the opposite direction. According to the original report by MGR Online, the vehicles involved in the collision included:
- Toyota Revo Pickup: Driven by the deceased victim. It lost control, crossed the median, and initiated the deadly collisions.
- Isuzu D-Max Pickup: A white truck modified with side rails for transporting vegetables. The driver and two female passengers in this truck all sustained injuries.
- BYD Electric Car: A white sedan that was sideswiped on the front driver’s side. Fortunately, the occupants of this vehicle escaped without injuries.
Emergency Response and Investigation
Local emergency teams acted quickly to help the survivors. Rescue workers from the Prasat Bun Sathan Foundation carefully removed the three injured people from the Isuzu truck. Ambulances then rushed two of the victims to Phitsanuvej Hospital. They sent the third victim to Buddhachinaraj Phitsanulok Hospital for urgent medical care.
Pol. Capt. Niphon Sutthaluang, the Deputy Inspector of Investigation at the Mueang Phitsanulok Police Station, is leading the case. He stated that early evidence points to high speed combined with bad weather. Mrs. Prasert was likely rushing to the morning market when she lost control of her truck on the wet pavement.
Authorities transferred the deceased’s body to the forensics unit at Naresuan University Hospital. Medical examiners will perform a standard autopsy to confirm the cause of death before returning her to her family for religious funeral rites.
This tragic event serves as a harsh reminder of the dangers of highway driving during bad weather. Highway 12 is a major route connecting Phitsanulok and Sukhothai. It sees heavy traffic daily, especially from local merchants transporting goods early in the morning.
Drivers must slow down when it rains. Wet roads drastically reduce tire traction, making it very easy for vehicles to hydroplane and slide out of control. Furthermore, driving early in the morning increases the risk of fatigue.
Commuters should ensure they get enough rest before getting behind the wheel to prevent falling asleep. Police urge everyone on the road to stay alert and drive cautiously to prevent further loss of life.
