CHIANG RAI – Provincial Energy officials in Chiang Rai Province have tightened inspections at gas stations to prevent fuel hoarding and unfair sales practices. After on-site checks in three districts, the team confirmed that stations reporting “out of fuel” were truly out, with no signs of stockpiling. The move also helps calm public concern during the ongoing energy crunch.
On March 16, 2026, Chiang Rai Provincial Energy Officer Prasak Ngamsompak led a joint team with Supamit Tengphao, Chiang Rai Provincial Commerce Officer.
They were joined by staff from the weights and measures office, local administrative officials, and local government representatives. Together, they visited fuel stations in Mae Lao District, Mueang Chiang Rai District, and Chiang Khong District.

During the visits, officers checked the remaining fuel levels and also trained local staff on how to verify fuel volume in underground storage tanks. The goal is to standardize these inspections across all 18 districts in Chiang Rai, so checks can be done consistently and fairly.
This field work focused on direct verification, especially in cases where stations refused to sell fuel or claimed they had run out. Officers measured tank levels on-site to confirm the facts.

From the random checks completed in this round, stations that reported shortages were found to be accurately reporting their stock. Just as important, officials did not find evidence of fuel hoarding or other legal violations in Chiang Rai.
At the same time, Chiang Rai has coordinated with the provincial public relations office and Thailand’s National Broadcasting Service of Thailand, Chiang Rai station (NBT Chiang Rai), to share accurate updates with the public.
The message is simple: use fuel wisely, stay informed, and don’t panic. Although some stations may run out temporarily due to the nationwide situation, fuel shipments continue to rotate in and resupply stations. Many locations across the province also still have full fuel types available and remain open for normal service.
