A viral claim circulating on social media recently suggested that Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, had been killed in a drone airstrike. The post quickly gained massive attention online, prompting widespread confusion and concern among users worldwide. However, fact-checking investigations have now revealed the truth behind the rumor.

Viral X Post Sparks Confusion Online

On February 28, an account on X (formerly Twitter) called ReversingTrend shared a X post claiming:

“Initial reports indicate that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was killed by an Iranian drone strike inside his residence in Tel Aviv.”

The post spread rapidly across the platform, collecting nearly 954,000 views, more than 1,100 reposts, and approximately 7,700 likes within a short period. As engagement grew, many users began questioning whether the claim was genuine or misinformation.

Fact-Check Reveals the Claim Is False

A detailed verification conducted by Legit.ng using the MyAIFact-check tool found that the claim was completely false.

According to verified information:

  • A drone incident targeting Netanyahu’s residence reportedly occurred in 2024.
  • The drone crashed into a nearby building.
  • No casualties were recorded.
  • Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife were not present at the location during the incident.

There is no evidence linking that event to any death or injury involving the Israeli Prime Minister.

No Official Confirmation From Israeli Authorities

Further investigations found no official statement from the Israeli government or any credible international news organization confirming Netanyahu’s death.

Additionally, Netanyahu’s profile on Israel’s official government website continues to list him as the country’s serving Prime Minister, with no indication of his death or resignation.

Reliable media outlets and government sources have also not reported any such incident, reinforcing that the viral claim is misinformation.

Benjamin Netanyahu Remains Israel’s Prime Minister

All available evidence confirms that Benjamin Netanyahu is alive and continues to serve as the Prime Minister of Israel. The viral social media post was misleading and contributed to the spread of false information about a sitting world leader.

Verdict: False

The claim that Benjamin Netanyahu was killed in a drone airstrike is incorrect. He remains alive and in office, and no credible reports support the rumor.
