BANGKOK – Cyber police have arrested a married couple who owned a well-known online luxury brand store. The suspects allegedly cheated prominent doctors, celebrities, and business owners out of more than 133 million baht.
Officers raided a luxury house in Bangkok’s Suan Luang district following dozens of complaints from high-society victims. The suspects are accused of running a major investment scam involving fake orders and stolen high-end goods.
Key Takeaways
- Huge Financial Losses: The couple defrauded high-profile victims of over 133 million baht through fake luxury investments and credit card scams.
- Fake Luxury Orders: The suspects used a well-known online store to lure victims into investing in non-existent luxury watches and bags.
- Arrest in Luxury Home: Cyber police raided a high-end estate in Bangkok, seizing luxury bags, watches, and financial documents as evidence.
The Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau launched the operation after receiving numerous complaints about the luxury page. According to a report by Thairath, a celebrity led a group of victims to seek legal action last April.
Police identified the suspects as 38-year-old Puchong, also known as Pong, and his 43-year-old wife, Sunatya, known as Nat. The couple operated a highly popular online store that specialized in consignment luxury goods like Rolex watches and designer handbags.
In the beginning, clients received their money and items normally, which helped the couple build deep trust. However, the store owners eventually began tricking their wealthy clients into making fake investments with promises of high profits.
Victims Face Financial Ruin From Deceptive Tactics
The couple used several deceptive methods to steal from their clients, including lying about missing items. They often claimed that luxury products were lost or seized by customs, even when the items had official Thai store receipts.
Investigators later found that the couple secretly sold or pawned those exact luxury items to other online buyers. Furthermore, the suspects convinced some victims to use personal credit cards to withdraw cash for the business.
As a result, several victims now face severe debt, with some being forced to sell their homes and cars. The financial and emotional damage caused by this luxury investment scheme has completely devastated many prominent families.
During the house raid, cyber police officers found and seized designer bags, luxury watches, bankbooks, and financial records. They also collected computers, laptops, and mobile phones to look for additional evidence of financial crimes.
Both suspects already had two active arrest warrants each for similar fraud cases when police caught them. The couple currently faces serious legal charges, including public fraud, embezzlement, computer crimes, and money laundering.
Although the husband and wife have denied all the charges, police are keeping them in custody for further interrogation. Cyber police will continue to trace the stolen assets to help the victims recover their massive financial losses.
