SAMUT SAKHON, Thailand — Police arrested a 44-year-old man on Wednesday following the fatal stabbing of his father at their home in the Om Noi sub-district of Krathum Baen. Investigators report the suspect was under the influence of narcotics and alcohol during the attack, which allegedly began over a demand for money.
Krathum Baen police took Mr. Kritsada, 44, into custody shortly after the incident. He is accused of using a knife to kill his father, Mr. Deuan, 69. The arrest occurred approximately 500 meters from a local shop where the suspect had stopped to buy water while covered in blood.
Officers tracked the suspect using local surveillance footage. The video showed Mr. Kritsada fleeing the housing estate on a motorcycle. He traveled along a canal-side road before stopping at a small retail shop.
Witnesses at the shop reported seeing a man in a blood-stained T-shirt. The shopkeeper immediately suspected a violent crime had occurred. Customers alerted the authorities as soon as the suspect left the premises. Krathum Baen police intercepted the man minutes later.
“The suspect appeared disoriented but admitted to the stabbing,” said a lead investigator from the Krathum Baen Police Station. “He claimed he acted out of anger after being scolded.”
Motivations and Confession
During initial questioning, Mr. Kritsada provided inconsistent statements to the police. However, he eventually confessed to the killing. He told investigators that he had asked his father for money to buy more alcohol. When his father refused and began to reprimand him, Mr. Kritsada allegedly attacked him with a knife.
The suspect admitted to consuming alcohol and taking one tablet of methamphetamine, commonly known as “yaba,” before the confrontation. He stated that his father frequently scolded him, which led to a buildup of resentment.
“I remember everything,” the suspect told reporters while being transported to the station. “I did it because he was always shouting at me.”
The victim was found inside the family residence with multiple stab wounds. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. Forensic teams have collected evidence from the home, including the suspected weapon.
The police have outlined the following steps for the ongoing investigation:
- Drug Testing: Formally verifying the presence of methamphetamines in the suspect’s system.
- Psychiatric Evaluation: Determining if the suspect’s “confused” state is due to substance abuse or underlying mental health issues.
- Witness Statements: Interviewing neighbors and family members to establish a history of domestic conflict.
“We are investigating the exact sequence of events,” a police spokesperson stated. “The suspect faces charges of homicide and illegal drug consumption.”
The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding drug-related violence in residential communities. Local authorities are urging families experiencing domestic disputes or substance abuse issues to seek intervention early.
Mr. Kritsada remains in custody at Krathum Baen Police Station. He is expected to appear in court for a bail hearing later this week. Prosecutors are preparing a case for intentional homicide, which carries severe penalties under Thai law.
