BANGKOK – Police arrested two Chinese tourists in Bangkok on Monday evening, April 27, 2026, just hours after they robbed a gold shop in Nakhon Ratchasima, also known as Korat in Northeastern Thailand.
The suspects, identified as 27-year-old Zou Qintao and 19-year-old Song Haolong, violently smashed glass displays to steal about 30 gold rings worth approximately 380,000 baht. According to reports from Thairath, the two men committed the brazen crime because they had completely run out of money while traveling in Thailand.
A Bold Morning Gold Shop Robbery
The frightening incident began at 10:10 AM at a local gold shop located in Dan Kwian Village, within the Chok Chai District. The two men walked into the busy store completely hiding their faces with dark balaclava masks. They were armed with a short handgun to intimidate the staff and carried a heavy, hammer-like tool to access the jewelry.
In a fast and violent attack, the suspects used the heavy tool to shatter several glass display cabinets. As glass shattered across the floor, they quickly grabbed a tray containing about 30 gold rings. Before the shocked staff or anyone else could stop them, they rushed out of the store. They jumped into a white Toyota sedan and sped away to escape the scene.

Immediately after the robbery, the men drove straight toward Bangkok. They had originally rented the white Toyota sedan from a car rental shop in the Prawet district of Bangkok before driving to Korat. Their plan was to quietly return the car and disappear into the crowded streets of the capital city.
However, they greatly underestimated the quick response of local law enforcement. Investigators quickly checked security cameras around the gold shop and the surrounding streets. They successfully identified the car’s license plate and sent out an urgent alert to police stations across the country. Highway officers spotted the white car driving through Ayutthaya province and closely tracked its journey south toward Bangkok.

Smart Teamwork Leads to Quick Arrest
The successful arrest was a perfect example of police teamwork and fast communication. Officers from the Chok Chai Police Station worked closely with Bangkok metropolitan police and immigration authorities to close the net on the suspects.
Here is exactly how the police managed to catch the fleeing men:
- Identifying the route: Police tracked the rental car’s movements using a network of highway security cameras.
- Contacting the rental shop: Officers discovered exactly where the car was rented and quickly contacted the business owner in Bangkok.
- Setting a clever trap: Police asked the rental shop owner to stall for time when the suspects arrived to drop off the vehicle.
- Making the arrest: At 6:30 PM, patrol officers swooped in and safely arrested both men at the rental shop located in Soi Sukhumvit 77.
Currently, the two suspects are being held at the Prawet Police Station in Bangkok. Police successfully recovered the stolen bag, which contained all the stolen gold rings. Officers from Nakhon Ratchasima are now traveling to Bangkok to pick up the men.
They will be taken back to the Chok Chai Police Station to face serious criminal charges. This fast and effective arrest highlights the dedication of Thai police in keeping local businesses and communities safe from crime.
