CHIANG MAI – Police discovered a burned body inside an abandoned car on a mountain road in Doi Saket district. Early findings identify the victim as a young businessman. Officers believe the incident may have been a murder and an attempt to cover it up. Another man, also involved, was found with severe injuries and taken to the hospital.
Reports from Chiang Mai police state that at around 2:00 a.m., Pol. Col. Supachai Jantra, Chief of Doi Saket Police, received a call about a badly burned body inside a white Suzuki sedan, Chiang Mai license plate ChY 3710. The car had crashed off the road, caught fire, and was found in the foothills of Village 5, Thep Sadet sub-district, Doi Saket.
Firefighters put out the flames, but the vehicle was destroyed. They later found a body inside. The deceased was identified as Kunsin Intayos, 32, a resident of Ban Luang Nuea in Doi Saket and a well-known local businessman. His remains were almost reduced to a skeleton, discovered in the back seat.
Initial investigations showed that officers from Mae Jo Police Station in San Sai district responded earlier to an assault at house number 347, Village 13, Pa Phai sub-district. At that address, police found blood stains on the floor and bathroom, as well as a bloodied hammer.
The badly injured man was identified as Wachirawit Boontawi, 28, the homeowner, who was rushed to the hospital. CCTV footage revealed that at least three suspects entered Wachirawit’s home that evening.
Later, Kunsin, Wachirawit’s friend, drove the burnt car to the scene. Neighbours reported hearing a heated argument and a fight before someone drove off with the car. Kunsin’s body was ultimately found in the vehicle, suggesting an attempt to destroy evidence.
Based on early evidence, police think the suspects and victim likely knew each other, possibly tied by business matters. A disagreement may have led to violence. The burning of the car appeared to be an effort to hide the crime and dispose of the vehicle in a remote area.
The injured survivor has not yet given a statement, but police suspect he may be linked to the case. Police have already identified the main suspects and are gathering more evidence to solve the case quickly.
