CHIANG RAI – Immigration police took custody of two Thai men who had just finished prison sentences in Myanmar. They were returned to Thailand through the Mae Sai border crossing, and checks later found that both had outstanding arrest warrants linked to drug cases.
The Immigration police then sent them on for legal action in Phitsanulok.
At midday on Monday, Pol Maj Gen Sarawut Khon Yai, Commander of Immigration Bureau Region 5, and Pol Col Ekkarat Busabodin, Deputy Commander, assigned a team led by Pol Col Surasak Thianthong, Superintendent of Chiang Rai Immigration.
The group also included several investigating officers and worked alongside the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB). Together, they received two Thai male detainees who had been released in Myanmar and were handed over at the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge permanent checkpoint, crossing the Sai River in Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai.

The transfer followed a notification from Tachileik Immigration in Myanmar, opposite Mae Sai, stating that two Thai nationals had completed their sentences and would be returned via the checkpoint. When the handover took place, Chiang Rai Immigration officers met and received both men.
The first was Mr Mongkhon, aged 31. Officers ran checks through Royal Thai Police information systems, including POLIS, CRIMES, and the PDC crime database. The results showed he was wanted under a Phitsanulok Provincial Court warrant.

The alleged offences included jointly possessing a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine or yaba) in breach of the law, with intent to trade or distribute, and being involved in arranging or promoting the use of bank accounts, electronic cards, or e-money accounts to support technology-related crime or other criminal offences.
The second was Mr Hatsadee, aged 42. He was also wanted under a Phitsanulok Provincial Court warrant, accused of selling a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine) for commercial purposes without permission.
Chiang Rai Immigration investigation and inspection officers jointly detained both men and handed them over to investigators in the original jurisdiction to continue proceedings under the law.
