Highway Police have arrested four drug couriers and seized 250 kilograms of crystal meth from a container truck during a police search in southern Thailand’s Surat Thani Province.

Police said the crystal meth was packed in fertilizer sacks and hidden under baskets of fruit in the truck. The said was destined for export and could fetch over 100 million baht.

The container truck was stopped by Highway police in Tambon Khlong Sai of Tha Chang district at about 4 p.m. on Friday. Drug suppression police had alerted the highway police to be on alert for the southbound vehicle.

Police Seize 250Kg of Crystal Meth

The driver told police that a Toyota sedan was leading him along the route. At that point, they radioed ahead to locate the car, which was intercepted and three people were arrested.

The four suspects were identified as Suwan Buasri, 28, the truck driver; Theeraphat Thammachot, 23, Toyota driver; Suraphon Iem-actor, 66, and his wife, Sujira Iam-actor, 58.

Police Seize 250Kg of Crystal Meth

During questioning, Mr Buasri said he had picked up the drugs in Chiang Rai province near the border and was to deliver them in Songkhla province. From there, they were to be exported to another country.

All four suspects have been charged with possession and trafficking of a class 1 narcotic. Narcotics suppression police took custody of the suspects and the seized drugs.
