CHIANG RAI – Police have arrested two suspects tied to a drug trafficking case involving about 600,000 methamphetamine pills. The arrest took place under a bridge crossing the Kok River.
On January 6, police said officers from the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB), along with military units from Task Force Chao Tak under Pha Muang Force and related special intelligence teams, detained two locals for legal action.
The suspects were identified as “Jathor” (alias), 32, from Huai Chomphu Subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Rai District, and “Tai” (alias), 16, from Mae Suai District, Chiang Rai.
Police told Matichon that late on January 5, they received information that a large shipment of meth pills would be handed off beneath the Kok River bridge near Pa O Village, Moo 5, Mae Yao Subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Rai.
Officers set up surveillance in the area and later spotted the two suspects at the location with a gray Toyota Vios sedan and a Toyota Revo pickup that appeared to lead the way. Police then moved in to inspect the vehicles.
Inside the sedan, officers found four rainbow-colored woven sacks. Each sack held about 150,000 meth pills, bringing the total to roughly 600,000 pills. Both suspects were arrested at the scene.
During initial questioning, the suspects reportedly said they picked up the drugs from Ban Ja Kue, Moo 10, Huai Chomphu Subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Rai, and planned to deliver them to another person, but were caught before the handoff.
Police later searched a suspect’s home as part of the follow-up investigation, but did not find additional evidence. The two were taken in for prosecution, with the 16-year-old handled under juvenile procedures in coordination with the relevant agencies for further interviews.
