CHIANG RAI – People are grieving after the tragic death of “Aunt Phan”, the well-known owner of a popular boat noodle shop in the province. The news has left many locals shocked and heartbroken.

Police from Chiang Rai City Police Station were called to a report of a violent argument and serious assault at Pa Phan Boat Noodles, a well-known shop in the area. The premises are located in Moo 13 on Ratchabamrung Road, Rop Wiang sub-district, Mueang Chiang Rai.

When officers arrived, both the front and back doors were locked from the inside. They could not get in, so they contacted rescue volunteers for support. The team used bolt cutters to remove the locks and forced entry to check the inside.

After entering, they found the body of a 64-year-old woman, Mrs Suphaphan, who had died at the scene. Nearby, they found the suspected attacker, Mr Phakin, 32, the victim’s son. He had severe injuries after an apparent attempt to take his own life.

Rescue workers gave first aid before rushing him to Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital.

Police initially believed the suspect may have become unstable due to drug withdrawal, and he was also reportedly intoxicated. Officers have placed him under guard at the hospital while he receives treatment, and they plan to proceed with legal action once he is stable.

Online, many people have posted messages of condolence and shared memories of Aunt Phan, a familiar and much-loved figure to Chiang Rai residents.
