CHIANG MAI – Maejo University Natural Agriculture Research and Development Center has announced a new growing innovation called “premium soil,” also known as “Bouncy Soil” (Din Deng Dueng).
The Natural Agriculture Research and Development Center says it turns tons of leftover organic materials into a ready-to-plant soil that supports strong growth. Most importantly, growers can plant in one step, then simply water, with no need to add fertilizer all the way to harvest.
Associate Professor Dr. Weerapol Thongma, President of Maejo University, and Professor Dr. Anat Tanchom, Director of the center, presented the work behind “Bouncy Soil,” a 100% organic planting soil designed for vegetables and many other crops.
According to the center, the mix contains key plant nutrients and contains no chemical additives. As a result, it supports clean production and reduces the risk of chemical residue in the final harvest.
Built on years of organic waste management work
Professor Dr. Anat explained that the center has worked on organic waste management since 1999. Over time, the team focused on research and practical use so the results could help both farmers and households.
The goal has stayed consistent: reduce organic waste in Chiang Mai, convert it into plant nutrients, and create benefits across the economy, community life, and the environment.
After that long foundation, the center moved one step forward by developing this premium, ready-to-use soil as a higher-value agricultural input.
The center describes “Bouncy Soil” as a complete planting medium with balanced properties across biology, structure, and chemistry. It has a loose, airy texture, so roots can grow easily. It also drains well while still holding enough moisture for steady growth.
In addition, the soil has a suitable pH level for many crops, which helps plants absorb nutrients efficiently.
Because of these characteristics, the mix suits organic growing and long-term planting. The center also says it can be used with many plant types and supports safe, clean harvests.
Bouncy Soil, you just plant and water
The key selling point is simplicity. The center says growers can use the soil for many kinds of plants without adding extra fertilizer or other nutrients. Instead, regular watering and light soil loosening are enough to keep plants growing well.
The reason, the team explains, is that the soil releases nutrients quickly when plants need them, which can improve crop quality. For fruit crops, they also report larger fruit size and better taste.
The Natural Agriculture Research and Development Center also plans to open a retail shop at Kham Thiang Market in Chiang Mai city. The official opening is set for March 20, 2026.
The shop will sell “Bouncy Soil” premium planting soil, along with organic farm products, general farm goods, and quality farm supplies at accessible prices under Maejo University oversight. This should make it easier for the public to buy the center’s products locally.
