CHIANG RAI – Mae Sai police have arrested a 39-year-old man, Mr. Narongwit (also known as Tao), in connection with a shooting that left a local man seriously injured. Police say the suspect admitted the incident followed a personal dispute that broke out while drinking.

The arrest was carried out on January 13, 2026, under the direction of Pol. Col. Jiraphat Saksung, superintendent of Mae Sai Police Station, along with the station’s investigation team. Narongwit, originally from Chainat Province, now faces charges including attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Mae Sai Police reported that on January 8, 2026, around 8:00 PM, the Mae Sai Police Station received a radio call about a shooting at a home in Village 13, Piyaporn Subdistrict, Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai. Good Samaritans rushed the victim to Sriburin Mae Sai Hospital.

Investigators went to the scene to document the area, map the location, and secure it. Forensic officers from Chiang Rai were also contacted to examine evidence. Police later went to the hospital and identified the injured man as Bandit, 29, from Mae Sai. Doctors treated him, and his condition later stabilized.

On January 10, after receiving treatment, Bandit filed a formal complaint asking police to prosecute Narongwit for attempted murder. Investigators then gathered evidence and obtained an arrest warrant from the Chiang Rai Provincial Court, dated January 11, 2026.

On January 13 at about 1:00 PM, Mae Sai police arrested Narongwit in Mae Sai District. Officers also seized a Smith & Wesson 9 mm handgun, along with a magazine containing five 9 mm rounds. Police said the firearm was used in the shooting.

During initial questioning, the suspect confessed and told police the incident started from a personal argument during a drinking gathering. Police have transferred the suspect to Mae Sai investigators for further legal proceedings.
