BANGKOK –  A passenger van with a Bangkok license plate crashed into an LED sign pole at the Kamphaeng Phet weigh station, then burst into flames. The driver died at the scene. Investigators later found two NGV cylinders mounted at the rear of the van.

On January 11, 2026, police in Mueang Kamphaeng Phet were notified of the crash around 5:20 a.m. The report said the passenger van had slammed into the LED sign structure at the weigh station, and a person was trapped inside. Officers arrived with local rescue volunteers and disaster prevention staff to check the scene and put out the fire.

The crash happened near a U-turn at Tha Sao Kradong, Village 2, Ang Thong Subdistrict, Mueang Kamphaeng Phet District. When responders arrived, the van (license plate 32-2674, Bangkok) was fully engulfed. Firefighters sprayed water and brought the blaze under control within a short time.

After the flames were out, the van was found burned beyond recognition. No passengers or luggage were seen inside the cabin. At the back of the vehicle, responders found two NGV tanks. At the front, the driver, an unidentified man, was found burned and dead in the driver’s seat.

Residents nearby said they heard a loud noise around 5:00 a.m., followed by dogs barking. When they went outside, they saw the van on fire but could not help because the flames were intense and some bursts sounded like explosions. They waited for rescue and fire crews to arrive.

Security camera footage reportedly shows the van traveling at high speed. It veered off the road at the crash point without any visible braking, then struck a wooden pole supporting the weigh station’s LED sign. A blast and sparks followed the impact.

Police have not yet confirmed the cause of the crash. They are waiting for a full examination by forensic officers. Officials from the Kamphaeng Phet highway department have begun an initial review of the damage.
