LAMPHUN – Police have tracked down and arrested a 33‑year‑old man in Mae Chaem district, Chiang Mai, after he sexually assaulted an 8‑year‑old girl who is his friend’s niece. He also filmed the abuse and kept the clip on his phone.
The case came to light when he sent his mobile phone for repair in Chiang Mai. The technician who worked on the device found the video, was shocked, and contacted the “Pen Nueng” Foundation, which then coordinated with the relevant agencies.
Today (18 November), reporters followed up on the progress of the case against Mr Pakorn, aged 33, originally from San Sai district, Chiang Mai. He is accused of sexually abusing and committing obscene acts against an 8‑year‑old girl in Lamphun, the niece of one of his friends.
The matter surfaced after his phone was taken to a repair shop, where the technician recovered data and saw the explicit video, which prompted him to forward the information to the Pen Nueng Foundation and ask the Department of Children’s Affairs to investigate.
Pol Sub Lt Supoj Nukas, deputy inspector of investigation at Mueang Lamphun Police Station, later brought Mr Pakorn in for further questioning. He informed him of additional charges, including possession of obscene material, rape, and committing indecent acts with a child under 13 years of age.
The case began when the suspect took his mobile phone to a repair shop in Chiang Mai. While trying to recover the data, the technician came across a pornographic video. In the clip, an adult man is seen forcing a young girl to perform oral sex and then raping her.
The video, about 13 minutes long, clearly showed abuse of a minor. The technician felt he could not ignore it, so he sent the clip to the Pen Nueng Foundation’s page to seek advice and help.
“Tonaor Pen Nueng” and the foundation’s team then went to the field to check the facts. They confirmed that the incident had taken place in Pratu Pa subdistrict in Mueang Lamphun district. The foundation contacted officials from the Department of Children and Youth and staff from the Lamphun Children’s Home.
Together, they visited the girl at a local early childhood centre in Pratu Pa to speak with her discreetly. They did not inform the parents at first, as early information showed that the offender was someone close to the family, and they feared he might escape if alerted.
After gathering information, the Pen Nueng Foundation and officers from the Department of Children and Youth and the Lamphun Children’s Home went to Mueang Lamphun Police Station to file a formal complaint.
They also learned that the suspect’s registered address is in Nong Han subdistrict, San Sai district, Chiang Mai. About two months earlier, he had moved to stay with a friend, the girl’s parent, in Pratu Pa. The family trusted him and allowed him to be alone with the child, which gave him the chance to commit the abuse.
Investigators at Mueang Lamphun Police Station later discovered that Mr Pakorn had gone to work in Mae Chaem district, Chiang Mai. They coordinated with Mae Chaem Police Station and related agencies, then travelled there to arrest him.
At first, he only partly admitted his actions. After further questioning, he confessed that he had raped and molested the 8‑year‑old girl, and admitted that he had recorded the act and kept the clip on his phone without deleting it.
Police have now detained him and are proceeding with legal action under the relevant laws.
