CHIANG RAI – The Gulf Development Public Company Limited, or GULF, continues to support the potential of highland communities and improve their quality of life. On 12 to 13 November 2025, GULF took residents from the Doi Morko Poki community in Tha Song Yang district, Tak province, and the Doi Wiang community in Chai Prakan district, Chiang Mai province, to join a training and study visit on complete coffee production at the Doi Tung Development Project (His Majesty King’s Initiative Area) in Chiang Rai.
Participants gained a wide range of knowledge, starting from how to select seeds for seedlings, proper coffee plot management, and wastewater treatment from the production process, through to coffee cupping to evaluate quality and flavour. These skills will help local communities improve the standards of their own coffee, increase economic value, and build a stable and sustainable source of income in the future.
Ms Yanisa Wattanakamnuan, Director of Corporate Social Activity Management at GULF, said, “This activity came about after GULF installed solar panels for both communities, Doi Wiang and Morko Poki. We saw that both communities already grew coffee, but they lacked an efficient coffee mill because there was no access to electricity. Once we installed solar power, the milling process improved, and the coffee quality became better.
However, overall coffee quality was still not as good as it could be, so we decided to expand the project. Today, we brought villagers from Doi Wiang and Doi Morko Poki to learn about coffee production at the Doi Tung Development Project. The aim is to pass on knowledge to the communities, from upstream to downstream, so that they have enough understanding to improve their own coffee plots, increase the quality of their coffee, and gain more stable income.”
Ms Natthaya Jirasakulngam, a representative of the Doi Wiang community in Chiang Mai, shared her thoughts, saying, “Today I learned many new things that I never knew before, such as how to produce good quality coffee and how to manage coffee plots to suit the area, including pruning coffee trees.
The knowledge from this training will be very useful. We can apply it in our own area so that coffee grown at Doi Wiang has better quality yields and brings in higher income. I am very thankful to GULF for arranging such a meaningful activity.”
Mr Chanchai Subpraman, a representative from the Doi Morko Poki community in Tak, added, “I gained a lot of new knowledge from the training at Doi Tung, things I had never known before.
I plan to share what I learned with other people in the community who could not join the trip, so that we can all improve and develop a more efficient coffee production process.
I would like to thank GULF for the support and for bringing our community this far. It has helped our village become better known and has driven ongoing development.”
This activity builds on the project “Green Energy Green Network for THAIs, clean energy connecting networks for Thais”, where GULF installed solar power systems in remote areas without access to electricity. The project allowed residents to access basic utilities and experience clear improvements in their quality of life.
It reflects GULF’s commitment to its sustainability mission, especially the focus on strengthening communities through access to clean energy, knowledge development, and support for suitable local careers.
The initiative also aligns with the company’s long-standing ESG approach. GULF will continue to work closely with communities across the country to create lasting benefits for Thai society.
