MELBOURNE – Coles shoppers across Australia can relax after a brief panic over a missing favourite. This month, customers noticed the bakery’s chocolate donuts had vanished from both the two-pack and six-pack ranges, sparking confusion on social media.

In their place, the $3.80 six-pack of Iced Donuts featured only pink and yellow icing. After a wave of feedback about the absent chocolate flavor, a Coles spokesperson told Yahoo Lifestyle the chocolate donuts will be back on shelves very soon.

The spokesperson said demand for the chocolate-iced donuts had jumped in recent weeks. While the popularity was welcome, some stores ran into stock issues.

Coles has worked with its supplier to boost supply, and shoppers should start seeing the chocolate donut option return from later this week. The supermarket also thanked customers for their patience while the issue was fixed.

Coles Staff Share What Happened

The update followed a Reddit thread where a worried shopper asked why two local stores had stopped stocking chocolate donuts. Several users, who said they were Coles employees, responded with what they were seeing in-store.

One claimed suppliers had not been delivering chocolate fondant, despite repeated orders. Another said the icing is not made on site, though the donuts are, and suggested the bulk icing had been hard to source.

A third person, who said they make the chocolate donuts several times a week, added that chocolate fondant had simply run out at times, whether due to missed orders, delayed deliveries, or mix-ups with stock notes.

Not everyone was unhappy about the change. Many customers were pleased to see only pink and yellow icing in the six-pack, saying they prefer those flavors anyway.

Comments ranged from delight that no one in their household likes the chocolate version to calls for strawberry-only trays. Others asked for six strawberry iced donuts every time, happily skipping the chocolate fondant.

Coles Chocolate Donuts in Australia

Coles, one of Australia’s largest supermarket chains, sells a wide range of donuts through its in-store bakeries and online shop. Most are made in Australia with a high share of local ingredients, often between 60% and 83%.

The range is pitched as an affordable treat, with prices varying by store and promotion. Specials often bring multi-packs down to around $3 to $6. Stock can differ by location, so it is worth checking the Coles app or website before you go.

Coles offers classic and flavored options, including:

  • Iced donuts in assorted colors
  • Filled donuts with custard, jam, or chocolate
  • Mini donuts and bite-sized packs
  • Limited-time bakery specials tied to seasons or events

Availability changes by store and week. If you have a favourite, keep an eye on local listings or add it to your online favorites to catch it when it is in stock.
