CHIANG RAI – On September 22, 2025, Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) sent out a Cell Broadcast flood alert for five provinces at high risk of flooding. The warning covers Chiang Mai, Lampang, Nan, Phetchabun, and Chiang Rai. Residents should stay alert for possible river overflows and flash floods. Below are the latest updates for each affected area.
Chiang Mai
Officials in Chiang Mai report heavy rain in the main city district, which is expected to continue. People living near streams, rivers, and low-lying or hillside areas should pay close attention and be ready for flash floods or waterlogging.
Residents in Chang Phueak should move valuables to higher ground. Extra care is needed for seniors, those with mobility issues, and people who need regular assistance. Stay updated using official channels for timely information.
Mobile operators AIS, True, and NT have helped send alerts through Cell Broadcast about flood risk in Mueang Chiang Mai. There has also been a rain warning for outlying districts like Mae Chaem, Mae Rim, Galyani Vadhana, and Doi Saket, with more Cell Broadcast alerts delivered for these locations because of ongoing rain.
- Flood and landslide alert for Mae Chaem
- Flood alerts for Mae Rim, Galyani Vadhana, and Doi Saket
Lampang
Authorities in Lampang are monitoring persistent heavy rain in Hang Chat (including the subdistricts of Wiang Tan, Hang Chat, and Pong Yang Khok) and Ko Kha (especially Lamphang Luang).
There is a risk of sudden floods, overflowing rivers, and possible mudslides, particularly in spots near creeks, rivers, and hillsides. Residents are urged to take their belongings and keep an eye on vulnerable people, like the elderly or bedridden patients. Local updates will be provided by officials.
Cell Broadcast messages, in partnership with AIS, True, and NT, have gone out to warn people in Hang Chat and Ko Kha about rising water risks.
Nan
Nan is also dealing with heavy rainfall, particularly in Santi Suk, Bo Kluea, and Tha Wang Pha. The rain is likely to increase flood, river overflow, and mudslide hazards, especially in low-lying and hillside communities. Residents should move essentials to higher places, check on those who may need help, and follow local government updates.
Alerts have also been sent via Cell Broadcast, warning of floods and landslides in the affected districts.
Phetchabun
In Phetchabun, heavy rain in Lom Kao is raising water levels in the Pa Sak River (at station S.33 in Tad Kloy, Lom Kao). Continued rainfall means the river could spill over, impacting riverside, branch stream, and lowland communities, especially in Sila and Tad Kloy.
People living in these areas should move valuable items to safer spots and support anyone needing assistance. Keep up with official news for safety guidance.
The DDPM, with AIS, True, and NT, has sent Cell Broadcast alerts to warn about the potential for the Pa Sak River to overflow in Lom Kao.
Chiang Rai
Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district is also receiving heavy rainfall, which is expected to continue. Flash floods, river overflows, and potential landslides threaten riverbanks, streams, and hillside spots as well as valleys. People are urged to move belongings off the ground and keep in touch with government updates. Take care of seniors and those with special needs.
The situation is not currently at a critical level, but with unstable weather conditions and the expected heavy rain for the next 3-5 days, authorities are urging residents, particularly those living in hillsides, riverside areas, and low-lying areas, to closely monitor flood warnings and prepare for the safety of their lives and property.
Cell Broadcast warnings are reaching people in Mae Sai about possible flooding.
If you need help or see flood risks, message DDPM on Line (Line ID: @1784DDPM) or call the 24-hour safety hotline at 1784.
