PHITSANULOK – Police have carried out major drug raids across three provinces, resulting in the confiscation of 732 kilograms of Blue Magic crystal meth and over 4 million methamphetamine pills. Police estimate the seized drugs have a combined street value of more than 200 million baht.
These successful operations were launched after a coordinated crackdown on trafficking networks moving drugs from the north down towards Bangkok. Officers discovered drugs hidden in secret compartments and even found traffickers attempting to dispose of the evidence to avoid arrest.
On Wednesday, Pol Lt Gen Kittisak Durongkavibul, Commissioner of Region 6 Police, alongside senior police and provincial officials, announced the results of these high-profile drug busts at the Region 6 headquarters in Prom Phiram District, Phitsanulok.
The seizures include 732 kilograms of crystal meth (known on the street as Blue Magic crystal meth), 4,199,709 methamphetamine pills, one Toyota Fortuner SUV, and a ten-wheel lorry.
The first case involved a police checkpoint at Ban Ko Rak Siat, Kosamphi Nakhon, Kamphaeng Phet, on 6 September. Officers detained three Chiang Mai residents in a black Toyota Fortuner after noticing suspicious behaviour.
Drug screening found narcotics in their systems, and officers discovered 109 methamphetamine pills concealed in the vehicle. The suspects later admitted they were involved in a wider operation that included trafficking drugs.
Further investigation led police to a ten-wheel lorry waiting 3 kilometres from the checkpoint, refusing to approach it. Officers found the lorry had been modified with a hidden compartment beneath the vehicle, where they uncovered 703 kilograms of crystal meth.
Additional enquiries led police to another 29 kilograms of Blue Magic crystal meth in Chiang Rai, bringing the total seizure to 732 kilograms valued at about 219 million baht. This batch is a new type of crystal meth known as Blue Magic and was planned for distribution to smaller dealers in central Thailand.
The second incident occurred on 7 September 2025, when police set up a checkpoint in Si Satchanalai District. A suspicious vehicle attempted to avoid the checkpoint and later abandoned evidence in dense roadside shrubbery. Officers collected a total of 2,999,600 methamphetamine pills from the scene.
They later arrested two suspects from Surat Thani at a nearby resort. Investigators found that the pills came from the border area in Chiang Rai and had been transported through several provinces before being intercepted.
In the third case, on 26 August 2025, a member of the public reported a suspicious object near the airfield in Lom Sak District. Police discovered it was a stash of 1,200,000 methamphetamine pills. Investigations are underway to identify those behind this haul.
Pol Lt Gen Kittisak Durongkavibul said Region 6 Police are keeping up their focused drive against drug trafficking, particularly at known smuggling routes running from northern areas down to Bangkok and nearby provinces. These ongoing efforts have resulted in significant arrests and large seizures.
Police have promised to keep tracking down everyone involved, including the masterminds, and will tighten checks along major transport routes. Efforts to spot suspicious vehicles and monitor the movement of known traffickers remain a priority.
The aim is to stop these drug networks from reaching communities and to maintain tough checks on vehicles and drivers acting suspiciously, ensuring illegal drugs do not spread further.
