CHIANG MAI – A well-known desert rose garden in Chiang Mai is drawing attention right now as thousands of desert rose (Adenium, “Chuan Chom“) plants burst into bright pink blooms.
The flowers cover large sections of the property, creating a colorful scene that visitors can’t miss. Besides the blossoms, collectors also come for the garden’s standout pieces, including towering, show-quality plants and a rare group with golden-colored roots, which are hard to find.

At LannaHut Garden, located in Moo 2, Ban Rong Wua, Mae Ka Subdistrict, San Pa Tong District, Chiang Mai, the desert roses have been flowering heavily for weeks. The bloom period has continued from Valentine’s Day through Chinese New Year and into March, so the garden still looks full and lively.
Pink flowers already feel tied to love and celebration. At the same time, many plant lovers also see the desert rose as a lucky ornamental plant, especially among Chinese buyers who associate it with good fortune and prosperity.
Because of that, people visiting during this season often leave impressed with the view and the variety of plants.

The owner has grown and collected the desert rose for over 20 years
The garden belongs to Kriangkrai Chaiphiset, who shares that he has been growing and propagating desert roses for more than 20 years. He also works in the public sector under Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation.
Over time, he transformed his family’s longan orchard, about 5 rai, into a dedicated desert rose garden focused on collection, propagation, and display. As a result, the garden has become well-known among collectors.
Many visitors come not only to buy plants, but also to see champion-style forms up close and exchange growing tips with other enthusiasts.

According to the owner, the garden now holds several thousand desert roses in many shapes and sizes. Prices range from hundreds of baht to hundreds of thousands, depending on age, form, and rarity.
A major highlight is the collection of large, mature plants. The garden has about 200 to 300 big desert roses, most over 10 years old, growing in oversized pots with diameters of 1 meter or more. Some of the oldest specimens are close to 20 years old and live in massive 2.5-meter pots, with dozens of plants in this extra-large category.

A house variety called Nangfa Lanna
In addition, the garden keeps hundreds of rare desert roses with golden-colored roots, a feature many collectors actively search for. There are also large, older plants, including those over 15 years old, planted in pots around 1.5 meters in diameter.
The garden also developed its own desert rose variety named Nangfa Lanna. The owner describes it as strong and easy to grow, with thick branches, attractive roots, and a canopy that produces lots of flowers. The garden also trains many plants into a tall, column-like shape, which has become a signature style that collectors recognize.
Desert rose remains popular with collectors, and demand continues year-round. Overseas interest has also grown, especially from China, where many buyers view the plant as a symbol of luck, status, and wealth. Because of that, Lanna Hut Garden has a steady base of repeat customers who order regularly.
Anyone who wants to learn about desert rose care, propagation, or collecting can visit the garden and ask for guidance. For more information, contact 08-5616-9885 or visit the Facebook page “Maineua LannaHut – สวนชวนชมเชียงใหม่“.
