CHIANG MAI – A mother said she’s reached her limit and has filed a police report after her husband, whom she described as a heavy drinker with a violent temper, allegedly struck their 8-month-old son with a plastic plumbing pipe.
The incident happened inside an apartment in Hang Dong District, Chiang Mai, and rescue workers helped rush the baby to the hospital. Police at Hang Dong Police Station said they received a report about an infant being assaulted and injured in Village 3, San Phak Wan Subdistrict, Hang Dong.
Officers went to the scene with rescue volunteers and found an 8-month-old baby with injuries around the head and eyebrow area. The child also had a fever and a cough, so responders quickly transported him to Hang Dong Hospital for treatment.

The baby’s mother, Ms. Ying Inkhum, 39, who is Shan, told investigators she wished to file a complaint and request legal action against her husband, Mr. Win Inkhum, 45. She said the family of four lives together, including the infant and an older son, 14.
According to the mother, earlier that evening, she was cooking in the kitchen while her husband watched the baby. She said he tried to help the 8-month-old practice standing by placing him facing a table.
When he let go, the baby could not stand and fell forward, hitting his head on the table and getting hurt. After that, she said she took over, soothed the baby, and laid him in a cradle. Her husband then left the room for a while.

Later, the mother said her husband returned, appearing drunk. At that time, the baby was crying loudly, so she picked him up and walked around the room to calm him down.
She said her husband complained about the crying and told her to take the baby. Soon after, she alleged, he walked up to her and used a plastic pipe to hit the baby on the back, causing injuries. She said she immediately fled the room with her son and called the police.
Officers and rescue workers arrived to control the situation and arrange emergency care for the child at Hang Dong Hospital.
The mother told police that her husband often becomes aggressive when he drinks and has repeatedly acted violently toward family members. She said she couldn’t endure it anymore, so she decided to report the case to the police and end the relationship.
