CHIANG RAI -Central Investigation Bureau police arrested Ms. Atchariya, 30, under a warrant issued by the Nonthaburi Provincial court over an illegal online gambling operation and related financial crimes.
The case includes allegations of jointly setting up, inviting, or advertising illegal gambling, as well as money laundering. Investigators also allege she allowed others to use her bank accounts or e-money accounts even though she had no intent to use them herself, and knew, or should have known, they could be used for cybercrime or other criminal offenses.
CIB Police officers arrested her at a rental room parking area in Soi 14, Mae Chedi Subdistrict, Wiang Pa Pao District, Chiang Rai Province.
According to Pol. Lt. Gen. Natthasak Chaowanasai, Commander of the Crime Suppression Division, investigators tracked people linked to an online gambling network. The group helped run an illegal gambling service and used multiple bank accounts to receive transfers from gamblers tied to the gambling website, YAKBET168.
Investigators say the network shared links to persuade people to register and gamble online. As the investigation moved forward, police found the group used many bank accounts to collect money from players.
Financial checks also pointed to millions of baht moving through the network. In addition, police say the suspects worked with clear, divided roles. Some handled internal transfers, others withdrew cash from ATMs and passed it to other members, and some opened bank accounts to receive gambling-related transfers.
Role of the suspect and the arrest in Chiang Rai
Police identified Ms. Atchariya as one of the people involved in the network. Investigators allege someone hired her to open bank accounts for the group, which were then used as channels to receive transfers from online gamblers.
After gathering evidence, investigators requested arrest warrants for four suspects in the case. Earlier, Bang Kriang Police Station in Nonthaburi had already arrested three of them. Because each person had a specific job in the group, investigators continued tracking the remaining suspect, Ms. Atchariya, after she reportedly went into hiding.
Later, investigators from Sub-division 1 located her in Wiang Pa Pao District, Chiang Rai, and arrested her. With this arrest, police say they have now taken all four suspects named in the court warrants into custody. Officers transferred Ms. Atchariya to investigators at Bang Kriang Police Station, Nonthaburi, for further legal action.
