CHIANG RAI – The Colors of Doi Tung Festival returns to the mountains of Chiang Rai every weekend from now through January 3, 2016.

Visitors will experience a fabulous garden show, a shopping alley and a series of performances by local highlanders and hill-tribes.

This year’s festival is titled “20 Years…the Memory Lives On” and marks the 20th anniversary of the death of HRH Princess Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother. More than 20 artists from ArtBridge Chiang Rai have turned the mountain into a colorful garden.

A walking street filled with shops, food, art, entertainment and exhibitions will be part of the festival. “Wisdom of the Inspirer”, artworks by more than 20 artists from ArtBridge ChiangRai group, commemorating the Princess Mother and conveying her vision of man and nature in harmony, will be on display. The “Photo Exhibition by Little Photographers”, artworks by local children, who depict the beauty and stories of Doi Tung, will also be on display.

The Flower Village in Mae Fah Luang Garden will be a highlight and the garden will remain open till 8pm. Another highlight is the Hill Tribe Walking Bazaar, featuring more than 50 stalls selling local delicacies, drinks and handicrafts of ethnic minorities who live on Doi Tung.

Visitors will also enjoy beautiful performances by the six ethnic minorities in Doi Tung: Akha, Lahu, Shan, Thai Lue, Lawa and Chinese. They can join workshops, including making and painting of ceramics, painting fabric bags, stitching notebooks and making the traditional Lanna flag, or tung as it’s known in the northern dialect. On New Year’s Eve, there will be a “Dinner in the Garden” amid the flowers. Dinner reservations are required.
