CHIANG RAI – The Ministry of Culture invites the public to enjoy a tea and coffee tasting festival and cultural performances by local hill tribes in the northern province of Chiang Rai during the long holidays.

Permanent Secretary for Culture Apinan Poshyananda said the Culture Ministry is joining hands with the Cultural Council of Tambon Wawi and the Tambon Wawi Administrative Organization in holding the Tasting Wawi Tea and Doi Chang Fresh Coffee Festival 2015. images

With a goal of using the country’s cultural heritage to create social values and boost tourism income, the event will take place from December 29 to 31 in Wawi Village, Tambon Wawi, Mae Suai district, Chiang Rai.

In addition to the tasting of the locally-grown Wawi tea and Doi Chang coffee, visitors will be treated to cultural performances by members of eight indigenous hill tribes, including Karen, Lahu, Akha, Lisu and Thai Yai.

There will also be exhibitions on the hill tribes’ ways of life, tea and coffee cultures, traditional attires and toys as well as a market selling local products.
