The Tour de France has been taking place in France for over 100 years. It happens in July and attracts a lot of attention from athletes, fans, and sports journalists.

In 2018, Geraint Thomas from Great Britain won the Tour de France competition, but he came second in 2019, with young Colombian cyclist Egan Bernal winning it.

With such success from the event, countries worldwide have also decided to create their own Tour de France cyclist competitions. On October 27, 2019, Thailand became the first country in Asean to attract the world-class cycling event.

This last weekend, Khao Lak in Phang Nga attracted local and international cyclists to test their limits and race a challenging and scenic course.

L’Étape by Le Tour De France

The cycling event, known as L’Étape Thailand by Le Tour De France, welcomed both professional and amateur cyclists to try the same course challenges and conditions in Thailand as if it were the official Tour de France race course.

“Having the same challenges and conditions of the official Tour de France track ensures that cyclists can experience the true Tour de France race, without having to travel too far away from where they live,” says Mathilde Lavoie, a sports spokesperson from Reviewbox.fr, “The French have been eagerly holding the Tour de France race for 116 years and it’s great that we are now able to share the exciting and exhilarating competition worldwide. Cycling really is for everyone and the races can be won by anyone.”

L’Étape by Le Tour De France is operated by Tour de France and has so far been held in 11 countries and five continents, with more getting involved every year. Since L’Étape du Tour first started in France in 1993, it has since expanded to the US, Australia, UK, South Korea, Colombia, Brazil, and various other locations worldwide.
