CHIANG RAI – The Akha residents of Saen Jai village in Chiang Rai province joined hands with Doi Saen Jai School to protect the Mae Fah Luang crab, which exist only in Thailand.
Students at Doi Saen Jai School got to learn about the animals and ways to protect them. They also had a chance to enter a nationwide school project competition held by the Teachers Council of Thailand and won first prize for their project on Mae Fah Luang crabs.
Their habitat is located along 300 meters of the Huai Mae Salap Creek. The area provides unique environmental conditions that make the crab appear brighter and more colorful. Local residents living nearby have also been told to refrain from poaching them.
