Qatar 2022: The Strikers to watch at this Year's World Cup

The World Cup is finally here and with the prospect of a first-ever winter tournament, Qatar 2022 looks just about as unpredictable as a major football competition can get.

From the hot climate to the disruption of domestic seasons, there could be a few upsets on the cards as sides jet off to the Middle East, with fans struggling to decide who to back in World Cup betting.

Indeed, with reigning champions France hit by injuries, expected to lose Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante, key components of their midfield, it will be interesting to see if Didier Deschamps has enough firepower to retain his crown after their opening win.

It feels like a tournament that will be defined by small margins and big goals, so strikers will need to find their shooting boots from the moment the competition starts.

Any domestic form is essentially thrown out the window, meaning a plethora of marksmen could find themselves winning the Golden Boot come the final in December. With that in mind, read on as we look at the strikers to watch ahead of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Harry Kane

While most England fans are less than optimistic about their chances in Qatar, Gareth Southgate boasts an impressive record in major tournaments as Three Lions boss — largely down to Harry Kane.

The waistcoat-wielding manager has called upon his captain throughout Russia 2018 and last year’s Euros, with the Tottenham Hotspur star still in search of his first piece of silverware as a professional.

Having won the Golden Boot in 2018 and capable of dispatching the lesser teams with ease,

Kane’s contribution from the penalty spot and his leadership throughout a youthful England side should see the Three Lions top their group of Iran, USA and Wales, but you wonder how far they can make it should they receive a challenging opponent in the round of 16.

Robert Lewandowski

Staying in Europe now, and Barcelona’s new man Robert Lewandowski will be expected to carry the load if Poland are to progress in the Middle East.

Faced with a tough group consisting of Mexico, Saudi Arabia and Argentina, the potential for goals in Group C is a prospect that Lewandowski will be licking his lips at.

Having left Bayern Munich after seven years, the 34-year-old is in the twilight of his international career, yet three defeats in Russia mean he is yet to win a game at the World Cup.

However, Poland have improved a lot since then and with the likes of Piotr Zielinski and Sebastian Szymanski,

they beat Sweden in the qualifying play-off to book their place in Qatar, with his nine goals throughout the groups a sign of things to come.

Darwin Nunez

It looks as if Darwin Nunez has just started to find his feet in the Premier League, which will be music to the ears of Uruguay fans.

With Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani at the end of their careers, the South Americans enter a new era and will want to improve on two rather lacklustre tournaments in which they were knocked out in the round of 16 and quarter-finals.

Nunez has become a regular scorer for Jurgen Klopp at Anfield despite a stuttering start since moving from Benfica, and while international football is a completely different prospect to the Premier League, his versatility to create space out wide as well as down the middle should make him a goal threat worth looking at.
