PM2.5 Dust Levels in Bangkok Cause Health Warnings

(CTN News) – Bangkok and several neighboring provinces in Thailand have been facing an air quality crisis with elevated levels of PM2.5 dust particles exceeding the standard limits.

This concerning situation has prompted health advisories for the public to safeguard their well-being by minimizing outdoor activities and taking necessary precautions.

The Air Pollution Problem Resolution Centre, operating under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE), recently revealed these findings after monitoring air quality across the region.

PM2.5 Dust Levels in Excess of Standards:

While the PM25 dust levels have largely remained within permissible limits in other parts of the country, they have surged beyond the standard levels in Bangkok, Samut Sakhon, and Samut Prakan.

Monitoring stations established by the Pollution Control Department (PCD) in collaboration with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) recorded dust levels ranging from 19 to 56 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m3), clearly surpassing the standard limit of 35.7 µg/m3 in 23 different areas.

Affected Areas:

These affected areas include prominent locations such as Hirunrujee in Thonburi, Kanchanapisek Road in Bang Khun Thian, Din Daeng Road in Din Daeng, Charansanitwong Road in Bang Phlat, Rama II Road in Bang Khun Thian, Thonburi Rom Park in Thung Khru, Taweewattana Park in Taweewattana, and Ladprao Road Soi Ladprao 95 in Wang Thonglang.

Additional areas experiencing escalated PM2.5 dust levels include Rama IV Road in front of Samyan Mitrtown in Pathum Wan, Narathiwat Road in Bang Rak, Ratchadapisek-Tha Phra Road in Thonburi, Charoen Nakhon Road in Khlong San, Tha Phra Intersection in Bangkok Yai, Soi Nikhom Ban Phak Railway Thonburi 5 in Bangkok Noi, Phutthamonthon 1 Road in Taling Chan, Klong Thawi Watthana Road in Taweewattana, Petchkasem Road in Phasi Charoen, Maha Chai Road in Petchkasem 81 in Nong Khaem, Ekachai Road in Bang Bon, Phaholyothin Road in Bang Khen in Bangkok, Om Noi Subdistrict in Krathum Baen, Maha Chai Subdistrict in Mueang Samut Sakhon, and Pak Nam Subdistrict in Mueang Samut Prakan.

Health Advisories and Precautions:

A health advisory has been issued to the public in response to these heightened levels of air pollution. It recommends that individuals take proactive measures to protect their health.

This includes reducing the time spent engaging in outdoor activities, particularly in the affected areas. Additionally, the advisory suggests the use of personal protective equipment, such as masks, to mitigate exposure to harmful PM2.5 dust particles.

For those with specific pre-existing health conditions, it is strongly advised to further curtail outdoor activities and use personal protective equipment diligently. Should any adverse health symptoms manifest, individuals are urged to seek prompt medical consultation.

Monitoring and Information Sources:

To stay updated on the region’s evolving situation and air quality, individuals can access information via the Air4Thai.com and airbkk.com websites, as well as the Air4Thai and AirBKK applications. These resources are vital for staying informed and making informed decisions about outdoor activities during this air quality crisis.

In conclusion, the elevated PM2.5 dust levels in Bangkok and its surrounding provinces are a pressing concern, prompting health advisories for residents to prioritize their well-being and take necessary precautions to minimize exposure to air pollutants. Public awareness and adherence to these recommendations are crucial in mitigating the health risks of poor air quality.
