Norway-Thailand Giving Educational Opportunities to Myanmar Students

BANGKOK – Norway and Thailand are joining hands providing educational opportunities to Burmese students, granting them 60 scholarships to study at Mahidol University.

“Norwegian Scholarships on Capacity Building for Institutions in Myanmar” is a cooperation between Norwegian Embassy and Thailand’s Mahidol University, which gives educational opportunities to Burmese students. 60 masters and doctoral scholarships will be offerred in 4 majors: Life Science & Health, Environmental Science, Social & Population Science, and Human Rights & Peace Studies.

According to Doctor Ratchata Ratchatanavin, Rector of Mahidol University, the Norwegian Embassy is giving 50 million baht worth of scholarships the Burmese students, while Mahidol University will help them with tuition fees and research expenses; adding that the idea is to help Myanmar develop its human resources.

Meanwhile, Katja Christina Nordgaard, Norwegian Ambassador to Thailand, said the embassy is giving Mahidol University a free hand to recruit the 60 candidates. Applications may be submitted from now until December of 2014. For more information, please visit www.mahidol.ac.th.
