Masters Cut Line For 2023: Rules And Updates For Round 2

(CTN News) – Compared to previous Masters Tournaments, the 2023 field is relatively small. Two golfers withdrew from Thursday’s first round at Augusta National, out of 88 invited players.

As a result of weather delays, Round 2 of the tournament was postponed until Saturday morning. The field has completed 36 holes and the cut has been completed.

Over the years, the cut line at Augusta has evolved. Due to the more exclusive nature of the field, it is more exclusive. Rather than taking the top 65 (plus ties), the Masters takes the top 50 (plus ties).

Check out what you need to know about the Masters cut rules and where the cut stands following the weather-delayed Round 2 on Saturday morning.

Is there a cut-off date for the Masters of 2023?

Despite some late fluctuations, the cut line for the 2023 Masters was set at 3 over par.

This means a number of high-profile players will not be competing this weekend, notably Rory McIlroy, who finished Friday’s round at five over par.

A bogey-bogey finish to his second round pushed Tiger Woods outside the line at 3 over for the tournament. In addition, Justin Thomas bogeyed No. 17 to push the cut line to 3 over par, allowing Tiger to return to within the cut line. Thomas made another bogey on 18 to leave him at 4 over par, resulting in a missed cut.

In addition to Bryson DeChambeau (4 over the line), Sergio Garcia (7 over the line) and Bubba Watson (9 over the line), there are a number of players outside the line.

The cut rules for the Masters Tournament

Only the top 50 players (plus ties) will advance to the final two rounds. This hard limit was put in place by Masters officials in 2020 to keep the weekend field as small as possible.

A player 10 strokes or fewer behind the leader after 36 holes advanced to Round 3 on Saturday, in addition to the top 50 automatic qualifiers.

Golf’s four majors will now have the most difficult cut as a result of the new rule. During the U.S. Open and PGA Championship, the top 70 players qualify.

A cut line has been established for Masters 2023

Tiger Woods and others on the line got a reprieve after the cut line fell from 2 over to 3 over at the end of the second round due to poor weather conditions.

  • 147 is 3 over par (cut line)

  • Inside cut line: 54 players

Can you tell me how many players make the Masters cut?

The initial field of 88 players is reduced to 50 (plus ties) after the second round. 54 players moved on to the third round due to ties.

In the morning of Saturday, Louis Oosthuizen (who would have missed the cut anyway) followed Will Zalatoris and Kevin Na in withdrawing from the tournament. By the end of the second round, the field was down to 85.
