Covid Vaccines Recommended by CDC for Infants, Toddlers, and Preschoolers

Infants, toddlers, and preschoolers will be able to get the first US Covid Vaccine which are specifically designed for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers starting as young as six months old.

Those developments occurred after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) director, Rochelle Walensky, put her signature on the report on Saturday.

In preparation for the start of the shots early next week, the government has been busy preparing everything. Around 18 million people in this age group will be eligible for the shots as it is the last age group without them.

On Saturday, Walensky said she had already given her approval to the CDC health advisers’ endorsement of the Covid Vaccines. In addition, she also advised parents that they should strongly encourage their children to get vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus.

Vaccinating young children is extremely important to millions of parents and caregivers, and with today’s news, they are able to do so,” Walensky said in a statement.

It has been announced that two Covid Vaccine brands, Pfizer and Moderna, have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use in children. Different dosage sizes and the number of shots will be offered as part of the vaccination program.

The Pfizer vaccine, which is available at one-tenth the adult dose, is given to children six months through four years old, with three shots required – two given three weeks apart, and a third two months later.

For children six months to five years of age, the Moderna injection consists of two shots, each a quarter of the adult dose, given four weeks apart. A third dose has also been approved by the FDA, at least one month after the second shot, to be given to children with immune conditions.

There are millions of children who are now eligible for this type of care, but it is hard to predict what the take-up rate will be. Throughout last November, less than one-third of the children between the ages of five and 11 who were eligible for vaccination were vaccinated.

In studies, it was found that children who were vaccinated developed high levels of antibodies that fight viruses as well as adolescents.

Compared to two doses of moderna, it appears to be about 40% effective at preventing milder infections; Pfizer provided limited information about their study that suggested they saw 80% effectiveness.
