Chaing Rai Police Kill Two Drug Runner in Mae Sai Shoot Out
CHIANG RAI – Two drug couriers were killed in a gunfight with Chiang Rai police and 400,000 methamphetamine pills seized in Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai province late on Tuesday night, police said.
Pol Maj Gen Chamnan Ruadrew, deputy chief of the Region 5 Provincial Police Bureau, said police had acted on information that a large quantity of drugs would be moved from Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district along the route from Chiang Rai-Chiang Mai.
A Mazda pick-up truck was intercepted at a checkpoint at kilometre marker 22 near the Huay Hong Khrai royal project in tambon San Pong of Doi Saket district after it was reported to have run through a number of checkpoints to avoid being searched.
At the last checkpoint a police vehicle was used to set up a road block. The pick-up truck ran off the side of the road and came to a halt. Two men fled from the vehicle and opened fire at police while trying to escape.
Chiang Rai Police fired back and the two men were shot dead. The Chiang Rai police found 400,000 methemphetamine pills in their vehicle. Read More Click Here
