Commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command Meets with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha

BANGKOK – Commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command Adm.Philip S. Davidson on Wednesday met with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. The Thai premier thanked the U.S. armed forces for sending officers to help the young soccer players and their coach trapped inside a flooded cave in Chiang Rai.

Gen.Prayut said Thailand and the U.S. are a long-time allies and they play an important role in maintaining stability and security in Asia. The PM expressed his confidence that cooperation between the Thai and U.S. armed forces will help advance the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

The two parties agreed to maintain their relationship and exchange visits as well as cooperative tools such as education, military exercise, particularly Cobra Gold, and intelligence exchange.

The premier and the U.S. commander also discussed cooperation in fighting terrorism, transnational crime and cyber security.

The Prime Minister said he hoped that the U.S. will support the development of Thai government agencies, particularly in terms of advanced technology. The. U.S. commander said the U.S. is willing to give support to Thailand.
