Thai Customs Seize 897 Kilograms of Crystal Methamphetamine

Thailand’s Customs Authorities have seized 897 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine hidden in a cargo shipment bound for Taiwan at a Bangkok Port.

The crystal methamphetamine was estimated to be worth 3 billion baht, a Customs official said on Saturday.

The drugs were discovered by Customs officials late Friday, hidden inside white silicon slabs that were destined for Taiwan and hidden in powder form.

Patchara Anuntasil, director-general of Thai Customs, said that once the crystal meth reaches its destination, the 897kg will be worth 3 billion baht in market value.

Patchara said both Thai and Taiwanese authorities were investigating the matter.

Despite the Coronavirus pandemic, the methamphetamine market has continued to expand and diversify in East and Southeast Asia.
