29 Year-Old Canadian Woman Killed in Traffic Accident in Phuket Thailand
PHUKET – A 29-year-old woman from Canada became the latest victim of Thailand’s dangerous roads after her scooter collided head on with a transport truck, killing her instantly.
When police and emergency responders arrived they found a motorcycle on top of the body of a foreign woman. She has been identified by Karon police as 29-year-old Canadian Amanda Icaino.
The truck driver Mr. Mongkon Sawenglab, who waited for police at the scene, said he was heading towards Karon from Chalong Circle and when he slowed down at the hill, the motorcyclist attempted to overtake on the left side of the truck.
He said he tried to move his truck to the right to let the motorcyclist pass but when the motorcyclist had almost overtaken, the driver suddenly braked and she lost control of her bike and fell under the truck.
Police believe Miss Icaino might not have seen the oncoming truck due to the bent.
A police spokesman said they were continuing the investigation and had reported the incident to the Canadian Embassy in Bangkok.
Meanwhile, rescue volunteers brought Miss Icaino’s body to Vachira Phuket Hospital to undergo a post-mortem examination.
