CHIANG MAI – Soldiers from the Third Army set up a checkpoint and reportedly stopped the former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s  car convoy to be searched for security reasons.

The Khaosod reported that soldiers identified themselves as officers from the Third Region Army and asked to search all of the vehicles except for Yingluck’s.

Lt.Gen. Sathit Pittarat, commander of the Third Region Army, the search was a part of his unit’s routine efforts to stem the narcotic trade and “any movements that may incite chaos.”

The general insisted that soldiers at the checkpoint stop every vehicle that passes through, and did not target Yingluck specifically. He also explained that the military officers spared Yingluck’s vehicle from the search because they “respected her dignity.”

The National Anti-Corruption Commission has notified former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra to show up at the Office of the Attorney-General on February 19 at 10 am so she will be formally indicted with the Supreme Court’s criminal division for political office holders, said NACC chairman Panthep Klanarongrun.

Ms Yingluck is facing charge of dereliction of duty for failing to stop massive corruption and losses in the government’s rice pledging scheme.
