MAE HONG SON – Four rocket launchers and large quantity of assorted ammunition has been recovered and two suspects arrested in a raid on a house in Muang district of Mae Hong Son early Sunday.
Narumol Palawat, the Mae Hong Son governor, announced the arms seizure at a press conference on Sunday morning.
Also present at the press conference were Pol Col Purithat Phankul, the deputy provincial police chief, and Col Theera Phadungsunthorn, deputy chief of a task force unit of the 17th Infantry Regiment.
A 100-strong combined police and military team laid in wait near house No 85/5 in Bang Kung Mai Sak in tambon Pang Mu of Muang district on information that arms traders would deliver weapons and ammunition there.
At about 2am, when a pick-up truck arrived at the house the combined unit sprung the trap.
The team recovered from the house a total of 109,478 rounds of assorted ammunition, including 35,964 rounds for AK47 rifles and 31,600 rounds for M16 rifles, and four rocket launchers.
Two men who arrived in the vehicle were arrested.
They were Pol Sr Sgt Maj Sumeth Missita, a former police officer attached to the Police Quartermaster Division, and a civilian identified as Johndeer Sawasdee, of Saraburi’s Wang Muang district. – Online News
