Thai anti-government protesters wave national flags at Silom intersection during ongoing rallies in Bangkok

BANGKOK – Video of gunshots at main protest site Bangkok: Gunshots rang out at the anti-government protesters’ main rally site in Bangkok late Tuesday night, leaving at least two people injured.

The sporadic gunfire lasted about 20 minutes near the Pathumwan intersection where the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) has set up the main stage of their “Bangkok shutdown” campaign, said reports.

Kuldej Puapattanakul, a former Democrat MP for Uthai Thani who oversees security at the Pathumwan rally site, said the multiple gunshots were heard coming from the Ratchathewi BTS station.

The wounded were a city garbage collector and a woman from Surat Thani.

Tossapol Ngamlamai, 35, was shot in the ankle as he was standing on the Hua Chang Bridge about five minutes before midnight, according to Thai media reports. He also received a head injury.

Amphai Charoenrit, 55, was shot in her right arm. Both were admitted to King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital.

Gunshots continued to be heard in the area until about 3am, according to a Bangkok Post reporter at the scene.

Witnesses said the shots were fired from a building in the area.

The shootings took place as the protester’s campaign to shutdown Bangkok was entering its third day on Wednesday, as they continue to try and force the government of caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to resign.

The prime minister and security authorities have voiced concern that a “third hand” group would take advantage of the situation to incite unrest.

On Wednesday, police arrested four suspects who were allegedly involved in a series of attacks on anti-government rallies. The suspects are being held at Bangna police station for supplying and smuggling weapons for the purpose of creating chaos.

The four are believed to have been involved in another attack Tuesday night in which an explosive device was thrown at the residence of Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva.

A core protest leader said weapons smuggled by the four suspects were used in the shootings at the Pathumwan rally site last night, according to reports.
