BANGKOK – The Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, Pol.Gen. Chakthip Chaijinda, defended the plan of barring women from enrolling in the Royal Police Cadet Academy.

Pol. Gen. Chakthip on Thursday (Sept 6) said the academy, which is the only career route to the upper echelons of the force, will only accept applicants from the all-male Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School, starting next year.

He rejected gender discrimination claims, and said women can still become police officers through other channels.

The national police chief said this policy does not discriminate against women, and it will not affect the female officers in the force.
