PHITSANULOK – A 46 year-old Thai man who brutally strangled and then raped and killed a 14 year-old Thai student in Phitsanulok Province earlier this year has been sentence to death.
The Phitsanuloke provincial court dismissed the confession of Son Humpiang, 46, as unuseful and condemned him to death for raping and killing the 14-year old girl.
The victim, a student at Nakhon Thai School, was strangled to death with a rope then raped at her house in tambon Bo Pho on April 5 this year.
A neighbor of the victim, Hoompiang went to the house of the victim’s to borrow a phone charger. Upon seeing the victim wearing shorts, he admitted he was sexually aroused, when the girl rejected him the two engaged in a quarrel and, in a fit of anger, Son grabbed a rope and strangled the girl to death and then raped her.
Son Humpiang, was later captuered and arrested at a corn plantation about 3 km away from the victim’s home in Nakhon Thai district of Phitsanulok following a hunt by police and local residents.
The court said the defendant confessed was not useful to the trial because the evidence against him was so overwhelming. The court added that there was no reason to commute the sentence and condemned to death.
