Thai Infant Killed in Tragic Freak Accident

PATTANI – A five-month-old Thai girl was killed after her step-grandmother accidentally stepped on the accelerator when parking the car and rammed into the baby’s stroller.

The stroller slid underneath the car and Noraisah Wae-Useng fell out, sustaining serious injuries on her head. Her 28-year-old step grandmother, Roda Komeng, also a Thai national, does not have a valid driving licence.

During the 5.30pm incident on Saturday, Roda was driving her car into a shed at the back of her late husband’s restaurant near Merlimau in Jasin after discarding rubbish with her daughter-in-law.

While trying to park her car, Roda was believed to have accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake and hit the stroller.

Noraisah was rushed to the Poliklinik Merlimau nearby for treatment but was later pronounced dead.

Jasin OCPD Deputy Supt Muhd Nur Hishamuddin Hashim said a post-mortem showed that the baby had died of severe head injuries.

“The family have accepted what happened as fate. They claimed the child’s remains on Saturday night,” he said, adding that Noraisah would be buried in Pattani, Thailand
