BANGKOK – In its campaign against the use of plastic bags 7-Eleven convenience stores have reduced the use of plastic bags by about 100 million bags and the project results in a donation of about 20 million baht to Siriraj Hospital.

Tanin Buranamanit, chief executive of the company, said that in the campaign that started on Dec 7, 2018, customers were invited to not receive plastic bags to donate 20 satang per saved bag for the procurement of medical equipment at Nawamintarabopit Building of Siriraj Hospital.

Within about a month, as of Jan 13, the project has saved 102,323,402 plastic bags and resulted in the donation of about 20 million baht.

Although the donation initiative will end on Feb 28, the campaign against the use of plastic bags will continue so that consumers can stop using them for good and help support environmental conservation in the country, Mr Tanin said.
