Phuket Visa Run Ends in Deadly Crash

PHUKET – A passenger van carrying 10 tourists on the highway from Phuket to Satun has crashed killing 3 tourists and seriously injuring 7 others early this morning.

The van was carrying 10 passengers – Russian, Indonesian and Thai nationals. It crashed into the wall of a roadside house at Bang Siad curve on the Phangna-Thap Put Road in Muang district around 8am.

As the van approached the sharp curve in the the road amid heavy rain, it lost balance and flipped over and crashed into a power pole and then a house.

Highway rescue workers were alerted and rushed to the scene a few minutes after.

Pol Capt Chatree Piankhayai, deputy chief investigator at Muang station said the injured and dead were trapped in the wreckage of the van. They were finally extricated by rescue workers and the injured taken to a nearby hospital.

According to Khaosod Online, van driver Mr.Prawit and his wife sustained only minor head injuries. They had collected the foreigners from Phuket who were going to Satun on a visa run.
