BANGKOK  – Police Major General Kamolsanti Klanbus, chief of Kanchanaburi police, has reported that two men have confessed to raping a 19-year-old British backpacker who was kidnapped by a motorcycle gang.

The young British woman was attacked as she walked to a shop in the early hours of Tuesday morning in the Kanchanaburi district, 76 miles west of Bangkok, the Bangkok Post claims.

CCTV footage led to the arrest of two young men, who then admitted raping the teenager, police have said.

According to the Bangkok Post, Police Major General Kamolsanti Klanbus, chief of Kanchanaburi police, the two men had confessed and the victim had already returned to the UK.

He revealed no more details about the incident, saying it was sensitive and could affect the tourism trade.

The Foreign Office today confirmed an incident involving the British teenager on May 26 – adding: ‘We are ready to provide consular assistance.’

It is understood she was visiting the area with a group of tourists and stayed at a well-known local resort.

According to Khaosad Online , she had dinner at a restaurant on the Nanachart Road in Kanchanaburi on Monday night with friends.

The woman is then said to have walked to a shop alone at 1.30am on Tuesday, when a group of motorcyclists appeared on the street, grabbed her and rode off.

The Thai website reports she told police in Thailand that the bikers raped her and stole her valuables. They then dumped her at a market in Mueang district, she told police.
